Certified painting and coating systems

All of the paints and coating products manufactured by Univer Sokema are routinely "certified", in the sense that our Quality Control Department always and routinely subjects each sample batch and production lot to the most stringent tests. The product performance data and test results are reflected in the Product Data Sheet for each product.

When the requirements include certain sanitary, safety or other technical guarantees then the company resorts to using standardised international certifications that act as a legal guarantee. The specific international standards that we refer to include the following:

standard ASTM D635, which certifies an article’s self-extinguishing properties;
standard UNI EN ISO 175, which certifies an article’s chemical resistance when coming into contact with corrosive substances;
standard UNI EN ISO 1186, which certifies an article’s suitability for coming into contact with foodstuffs or drinking water;
standard IMO (International Maritime Organization), which is the strictest standards relating to performance in the naval field as regards fireproofing qualities, calorific power and smoke emission levels in the event of a fire (see Res.MSC 61(67) Annex 1, Part.2 – Annex 1, Part 5, Par.3,1 and Res.A.653 (16) FTP Code MSC 61(67) Annex 1, Part.5).

The products currently certified in terms of the above standards include the following:

K 39 (used for the internal coating of tanks destined to contain fuel), certified as IMO, ASTM D635 and UNI EN ISO 175 compliant;
K 40 (used for the internal coating of tanks destined to contain drinking water), certified as IMO, ASTM D635 and UNI EN ISO 1186 compliant;
K 303 (used for coating ships’ bilges), certified as ASTM D635 compliant;
ETR 2803 (used as a vitrification, structural and anti-osmotic agent in the shipbuilding industry, certified as IMO and ASTM D635 compliant);
THERMODUR (used in the oven drying of coatings used on metals requiring heat treatment in temperatures of up to 700 °C), certified as ASTM D635 compliant;
THERMOPLAST (used in the natural drying of coatings used on metals requiring heat treatment in temperatures of up to 600 °C), certified as ASTM D635 compliant;
K2-HG (fire-retardant, high gloss, transparent polyurethane coating for wood, free of styrene and all other toxic substances), certified as ASTM D635 compliant.

The policy of Research, Development and Certification continues for a wide variety of products destined for variety of different markets, ranging from shipbuilding through to sanitary, from aeronautics through to electronics, from specialised construction through to the foodstuff industry and from the motorcar and motorcycle industry through to plastics.
